I rearranged this piece of code like a dozen times before I
finally understood what it actually does. This should be much
more obvious now.
The idea is:
* If no edit was made the button is always disabled.
* You can save pretty much everything, except when the
transclusion still starts with a placeholder.
* You can also click the done button when the dialog is empty.
This feels a bit odd, but was like this before. I think this
codepath is unreachable. But it probably doesn't hurt to
keep it.

While the term "canonical" is not wrong, I find it still
somewhat ambiguous.
1. "Canonical" could mean different things. E.g. is the order
of parameters as they appear in the article's wikitext the
"canonical" one? It's possible to argue like this, esp. if a
template doesn't have TemplateData documentation. In this case
the only order known is the one from the wikitext.
2. "Canonical" sounds like the parameters must be reordered.
But this should never happen. Not having dirty diffs is more
important than having the parameters in a specific order.

This does not revert commit 950a5300 but applies the most
minimal hotfix I could come up with.
The reason for the breakage is that MWParameterPlaceholderPage
& MWParameterSearchWidget both hold references to the
MWTemplateModel. This model is not always the same. The dialog
might be the same when a template is edited multiple times.
But the model might be a new one. From this point on the
MWParameterSearchWidget pulls data from an outdated model.
This extra check compares this model reference and creates a
new widget when it changed.

There is a codepath where `modelPromise` is undefined and
calling `modelPromise.then()` fails. This codepath implies
that the dialog is empty and there is nothing to update. We
can just close the dialog then.
I found this while debugging the actions in this dialog.
This happens when the dialog is empty (except for a
placeholder) but you submit it anyway. This is typically
not possible as the button is supposed to be disabled.
Still I think it's a good idea to make this code less
fragile.
The relevant code was introduced in Ibc2fc66 (2016).

These comments don't add any knowledge. The text is either
duplicated, or the method signatur says it already. Having

Wait, what's going on here? This patch looks like it changes the
behavior of this code. But it doesn't. Here is what happened
before:
* Let's say a template contains 2 parameters, A and B.
* We don't know yet if these names are aliases.
* getParameterNames() returns [ "A", "B" ].
* extend() is called. The TemplateData documentation contains
the parameters "B" and "C". "C" does have an alias "A".
* extend() can't find "C" and adds it to the end, as if it's a
new parameter.
* extend() also iterates the aliases. For each alias it creates
a reference to the specification object. In this case a
reference from "A" to "C" is created.
* But "A" already exists. The position of "A" doesn't change,
but the specification now says it's an alias.
* getParameterNames() skips aliases. It skips "A" and instead
returns the new "C" from the end of the list.
This was the behavior before. It's unchanged, proven by the tests.

The idea is to not actually store all these default values, but
fall back to the default only when needed.
Some more details:
* The only remaining property is ….name. The only reason to
have this property is to distinguish between aliases and
primary parameter names. This will be reworked in a later
patch.
* The description falls back to null because this is the
documented fallback, not undefined.
* The default value falls back to "", same as the auto-value.
Why not null you might ask. This is intentional. Both the
auto- and default value are effectively wikitext snippets,
while the example is a label in the VE UI.

This is done for two reasons:
1. It fixes the behavior of two methods in rare edge-case

2. It reduces the amount of stuff this class stores when it's

When no `paramOrder` is given, known parameters should appear in the
order returned from the TemplateData API.
Previously, when TemplateData was present but no paramOrder

Brief history of this code:
2014: The dialog was designed to dynamically change the title.
There was never a tooltip.
2016: A change in OOjs changed the behavior in VE. Now the initial
title shows up as a tooltip. It never updates because VE
does not know about this. The tooltip does not match the
visible title.
2021: We revert to the behavior from 2014. We achieve this by
bypassing the codepath that creates the tooltip. This is why
….title.setLabel() is used instead of ….static.title.

The "mode" button is the button that allows to expand and
collapse the dialog. It can't be collapsed when multiple
templates are edited. That's what these lines do,
disabling the button.

Both the template description as well as the parameter
description (including default value and examples) typically
contain longer texts. These can contain longer words that
"explode" the design. This is trivial to avoid.
Note this is not meant to fix this issue in all places where
it can appear. For example, a long parameter name causes the
same issue. But:
* Technically, it's not that easy to fix.
* Even if, it's not obvious how to fix it. Cut off the
container? Add ellipsis? Or wrap? How should the
surounding stuff float then?
This is all left out because of this. Focus on what's
obvious.

We can skip all the up and down message passing by persisting the
parameter placeholders for each template dialog. If the parameter
list is expanded then the placeholder is deleted, on being created
again it will still have state.
To test: create a transclusion with two templates, each having many
parameters. "Add more information" to add parameters, expand the
list by clicking "Show <num> more fields", then delete the parameter
placeholder using the trash cans. Try different permutations to fool
the cache or collide with another template.
This is preparation for other template sidebar dialog work.

This dramatically simplifies the "mode" flag in
MWTransclusionDialog. The main reason to touch this code is:
The flag appears like it will be "single" when the dialog
contains a single template, and "multiple" when there are
multiple templates. But this is not true.
What the flag really does is show/hide the sidebar. The sidebar
is needed to be able to create multi-part templates. But a
dialog that already contains multiple templates can be set to
"single" mode (i.e. the user can collapse the sidebar), and
vice versa.
This patch focuses on private details inside of this class, but
keeps the terminology of a "mode" in some places. E.g. the
messages are not renamed to not cause unnecessary trouble for
translators.

This does have a few advantages:

When the existing search results don't contain an exact match
(see previous patch), perform an additional search for the
title. This uses OpenSearch. This is recommended in multiple
places and also used in the quick search field at the top of
MediaWiki.
Again, I came to the conclusion that an isolated unit test
would be complicated and not test much anyway. Better test
on-wiki.

This code detects a few edge-cases:
1. When some search results are exact matches, make sure they
are always at the very top.
2. When the prefixsearch API is used, e.g. as a fallback,
redirects show up as a separate metadata structure outside of
the pages array. Consider these and stop if there is already
an exact match.
3. CirrusSearch returns redirects as part of the pages array.
When there is an exact match, make these redirects separate
options and add them to the top.
All of this is case-insensitive, on purpose. In case two
templates with different capitalization exist, we rely on
the backend to return both. The code introduced here is fine
with this.
Notes:
* This doesn't guarantee an exact match is always there. This
requires an additional HTTP request and is done in the next
patch.
* I tried to write unit tests for this, but gave up. The setup
is complicated. An isolated unit test would not test much
anyway. Better test this on-wiki.

Template names sometimes show up twice when searching for a
template in the "Add a template" dialog.
This is a bit hard to test. The code responsible for this
is not in a single place. The feature is in the upstream
TitleWidget class. It's not broken. It makes sense to
provide e.g. "foo" and "Foo" as two separate options when
the user typed "foo", but the page is named "Foo". Both are
valid, and the feature allows the user to pick either.
But the VE widget does it's own normalization. Both entries
are normalized to "Foo". Both do the same. The additional
one is pointless.
You can try this on the actual enwiki: Open VE, insert a
template, search for "Template:nHLE".

The "redirects" part in a prefixsearch query is always an
array, no matter if formatversion 1 or 2 is used.
The "pages" part is an object with formatversion 1, and an
array with formatversion 2.
As of now this always uses formatversion 1. This is
hard-coded in the upstream TitleWidget class.

VisualEditor recreates the mw-body-content element. The element
with mw-parser-output already exists as a child. All skins now
consistently follow this pattern.
To limit the impact to the editor, we use ArticleTarget and add the class
to the surface, which corresponds to the mw-body-content element of a skin.
This avoids unrelated regressions in experiences such as DiscussionTools.

Ib957eac2d checked to see if actionTools.notices existed before
destroying it, but assumed it always existed if editNotices was
set. This patch adds a check before attempting to show editNotices.
The error occurs because Ibc7fa48df unregisters the 'notices' tool
(along with many others) for AddLinkArticleTarget.js in
GrowthExperiments. I92a3162ef in GrowthExperiments will empty out
any notices to work around this problem.

In QUnit 2, QUnit.setup()/QUnit.teardown() were renamed, to be called
QUnit.beforeEach()/QUnit.afterEach(). Though we are insulated by this
through MediaWiki's wrapper for backwards compatibility, changing the
names of the functions we pass to the new names allows us to drop the
old ones.

We have two preferences used for enabling/disabling VE:
'visualeditor-enable' and 'visualeditor-betatempdisable'.
(And 'visualeditor-autodisable', which sometimes overrides
them both, but it's not relevant here.)
The user can only set 'visualeditor-enable' when VE is Beta Feature,
and they can only set 'visualeditor-betatempdisable' when it is not.
However, when deciding if VE should be loaded, we always checked both
of the preferences. This gives incorrect results when the preference
that is not supposed to be settable actually exists, due to being set
in GlobalPreferences on another wiki where it's settable.
A similar issue could occur if VE configuration is changed from Beta
Feature to a normal preference (or the other way around), and the
preference values for the previous configuration still persist.

grey background and has a tooltip explaining that this is a
non-breaking space and not a random grey blotch.
This is not done for TextNode (in core VisualEditor), as that doesn't
actually work: Parsoid converts all in input to regular spaces.
It's still not easily possible to insert a non-breaking space.

* In normal images, parse relative 'href' attributes instead of
expanding them to absolute. This resolves Parsoid generating
|link= options for copy-pasted images (T193253).
Keep them in the underscore-form to avoid causing dirty diffs like
T237040 again. Unlike in the previous attempt, we don't need to be
super-careful about the 'resource' attribute, thanks to the Parsoid
changes in T108504.
* In gallery images stuff, prefix the 'resource' attribute with './',
same as normal images do. This causes no functional changes, but it
makes updating tests easier, and the consistency is probably good.
* Update test examples to also prefix 'resource' and relative 'href'
attributes with './', like the real Parsoid does.

Parsoid sometimes emits malformed links (with no 'rel') when a
misnested <figure-inline> tag is moved around. Converting them to
internal links, and adding the 'rel' attribute, makes the element no

In the new-page case, wgRevisionId will be 0 so it'll try looking for
parentRevId and the cast-to-int on an undefined will get us NaN. That
fails validation, so we should give one last fallback to 0.
It's _possible_ that we could instead make this an explicit check for
using wgRevisionId if it's anything not-undefined, but I'm not certain
about whether there are cases that wouldn't cover.

Make ve.dm.MWTemplateModel#serialize ignore empty parameters if they were not
present in the transclusion before the edit. This avoids dirty diffs where an
user edits a template transclusion via VisualEditor, and the editor adds all
available template parameters to the edit wikitext, even if they were not
changed during the edit.
This logic was ported from the old Wikia-WMF VisualEditor project.[1]
Additionally, add tests for ve.dm.MWTemplateModel serialization.

This provides a consistent entry point for registering plugins on both
desktop and mobile, without needing to do strange things if the right
ResourceLoader module hasn't loaded yet.
Without this, registering a plugin module in JS requires ugly code,
and on mobile it wasn't possible at all.

Like transclusions, extensions can contain nodes of other types. This
hasn't been an issue because the legacy parser doesn't generate content
with these annotations. But, moving forward, as Parsoid becoming
responsible for more extensions. This is the case for the new ImageMap
implementation.

The 'mwSignature' command replaces the selected content with your
signature. So basically, if you double-click this node, it gets
deleted and an identical one is inserted. This is useless.
I think I added this when this class was inheriting from
ve.ui.MWTransclusionContextItem, to override the command that would
open the transclusion dialog, but even then this should have instead
been `null`.

These constructors only take a single argument, so the api config was
being ignored and the input would fall back to the default `new
mw.Api()`.
The order is changed so that the "api" config is merely a default,
and can be changed by whatever comes later.
The UserInputWidget currently doesn't accept an "api" config. This
will be fixed in Ifb1dd9d. But this is not a blocker. Merging this
patch here before the other won't have any consequence. It will just
continue to ignore the "api" config. ;-)

This patch starts using watchlist related values from ApiEditPage
results instead of updating the "watch link" based on whether the
checkbox was selected or not at the time of saving the article.

display the right tooltip when hovering the "watch link" or star icon.

If we call getBoundingClientRect() while the 'transform' animation is
still ongoing, it's going to return values reflecting the transform
- that is, the rect will be partially offscreen - which will trigger
our code that runs the animation again.
I don't know why this wasn't a problem on iOS 13.3 and earlier. Either
the timing was slightly different and the 'transform' animation was
able to finish earlier, or getBoundingClientRect() was buggy and
returned wrong values that conveniently worked right for us.

The MWParameterSearchWidget that shows a list of all available
template parameters displays the (human-readable) label and
description of each parameter (both given via <templatedata>), as
well as the parameter's internal name and aliases, if there are
any.
This turns out to be non-helpful in the majority of situations:
* When there is no <templatedata> yet, there are no labels.
Instead, the names are used as labels, which means they are
*all* identical and everything is shown twice.
* The same happens when manually adding an "unknown field". Simply
start typing, and you can add parameters with any name. What you
type is shown twice (actually 3 times, 1 time in the input
field, 2 times in the result widget).
* Many template parameters are already nice, human-readable. Even
if <templatedata> exists and specifies labels, these labels are
often identical to the names. There is no need to come up with
something else if the name is already good enough. (Exception:
Localizations, but these are rare.)
Furthermore, this is a *search* result widget. The pretty much
only reason the names and aliases are shown is because the user
can search for them, and needs to understand why a parameter was
found. This still works fine.
For comparison, when a parameter is required you will *never* see
it's name, because the parameter is always there, and never shows
up as a search result.

Rebuild the category list from the data we got from the API. This makes
it work regardless of whether we came here from activating on an

This handles the minor edit and watch checkboxes, as well as any added

The first time we check, it's too early for any code that might have
wanted to call stopShowingWelcomeDialog() to have done so (because we
check synchronously after making that function available).

The difference is that metaitems are not visible on the editing
surface, and their exact position is not preserved when the paragraph
containing them is edited.
This behavior is desirable for e.g. categories, but not for
<noinclude> and related tags, which are intentionally placed in
specific places in the text.
Note that we don't really have any editing interface for these nodes
yet. But you can see them (and they come with descriptions and links
to documentation pages), and delete or copy-paste them.

By default, many browsers permit resizing the textarea in both
dimensions; however, the SaveDialog doesn’t handle horizontal resizing
very well (the textarea is no longer centered and the options don’t
adapt to the new width), so add some CSS to limit the resizing to
vertical only.

to `sectionId !== '0'`. That was actually a mistake, as Parsoid's
section IDs can be negative, which indicates pseudo-sections, which

Factor out the logic for whether the WelcomeDialog should be shown into
its own method, and write it in a less confusing way. Do the same thing
with the logic for setting the preference/storage/cookie for hiding the
WelcomeDialog.
This makes maybeShowWelcomeDialog() much simpler, and removes duplicated
code in DesktopArticleTarget.
There is one minor change in behavior: if the WelcomeDialog is
suppressed using the URL parameter, that no longer causes the preference
to be updated as if the dialog had been shown.

In MediaWiki, section numbers may be prefixed with 'T-' if they refer
to sections on a transcluded page, so they are not really numbers.

integer numbers, which I missed when making that patch.

When a page is preprocessed for transclusion, sections are numbered
differently, and the 'T-' prefix indicates this. It can't just be
removed.
It seems that all of our other code can handle section "numbers" like

Once upon a time, we added code to filter <style> and <link> elements
from the rendering of templates in visual editor, because attempting
to cut them would crash Chrome (T52043).
There are at least three reasons why that is not needed here:
* The preview is not editable text, so you can't cut from it
* The Chrome bug was fixed 7 years ago anyway
* We now use TemplateStyles in articles and they work just fine

without explanation, I think it was just done for consistency.

When using TwoColConflict with VisualEditor, the autosave buffer wouldn't
be cleared after saving the successful merge. This would cause a user to
see a "restore changes?" prompt the next time they entered the editor,
with the potential to confuse them and cause them to do extra work,
repeating the conflict resolution unnecessarily.
This change purges the autosave buffer before submitting a merge.
Note that it is not transactional, so there is a chance we're losing the
autosaved content even if the submit will fail.

When the user is saving their edit, we want to ensure that they
understand how it will be attributed. If the user gets logged out or
logs in in another tab, we want to display a message about it before
saving.
Instead of manually managing tokens and handling the 'badtoken' error
to detect this, use the 'assert'/'assertuser' parameters for the API
to detect it for us. Thanks to this we can rely on automatic retrying
for 'badtoken' errors in mw.Api#postWithToken.
It will be possible to share some of this code with other extensions
that already use ArticleTargetSaver, namely DiscussionTools, now that
it doesn't need to manage tokens for VisualEditor.

By removing this line, we fall back to the default behavior,
which is to copy the attribute from the original DOM element.
The gallery is supposed to have a class indicating the type (packed,
traditional, etc.). However, Parsoid doesn't care about that and
instead reads the type from 'data-mw'. Instead, changing the attribute
is causing dirty diffs.

It was broken on desktop and on mobile, but for different reasons:
Desktop: In change 5f1c68945d,
I removed some code from DesktopArticleTarget that was checking for
`typeof errorDetails === 'string'`. I thought it was unused, but it
was actually needed for this code.
Mobile: overlay.reportError() doesn't work here: that method displays
the error inside the save panel, which is not visible at this point.
This is now solved by treating those errors as if they were API errors,
which is something we were already doing in ArticleTargetSaver.

When opening the old wikitext editor, 'wgRevisionId' is always set to
0, and remains that way even if we switch to visual editor.
Elsewhere in the code, we handle this case by reading the revision ID

When a template does not have user-provided TemplateData documentation,
the TemplateData API falls back to extracting possible parameters from the raw wikitext
to generate an API response with a list of potential parameters. However, it also
sets the "notemplatedata" field in the response, causing the VisualEditor to think
the response contains no useful information and ignore it. This appears to have been
an unintended side-effect of I97a1bfc9f9ead082a673a91b9d2053630a90309c.
This patch ensures that the VisualEditor will correctly consider such responses from
TemplateData by modifying ve.dm.MWTransclusionModel to check if the response contains
a parameter map. Some unit tests were added for the class to verify this behavior.

In many places we check whether VE is available before doing things
(init.isVisualAvailable). This variable includes checks for whether
the page is wikitext, etc. Now it will also include checking whether
VE is enabled in user preferences.
In almost all places where init.isVisualAvailable is used, we were
already also checking if VE is enabled, so this doesn't affect the
behavior. But notably, we didn't do it when showing the option to
switch to VE in the welcome dialog and in the toolbar, causing T243723.
Changing init.isVisualAvailable this way makes it consistent with
init.isWikitextAvailable, which has always included a checking whether
NWE is enabled in user preferences.

We decided to handle them this way in 2015 but never implemented it
(T94509). Currently, accidentally editing text inside of

The .statusText and .status properties belong to the XMLHttpRequest
object, and are not present on the API response data object. I think
these checks were left over "just in case" when this code was ported
to use mw.Api instead of XMLHttpRequest directly.
MediaWiki API should never return just 'error' as the error code.

We've just displayed an error message in it, so don't close it.
I'm not sure if this code matters at all though. Usually when
there's an error during loading, code in MobileFrontend will close
the overlay and display an error message in a different way, so our
message won't be visible to the user. But maybe there's some case
I'm missing, and it's harmless. Closing the overlay was messing with
the MobileFrontend code though.

The comment here seems to be wrong, as far as I can tell, this
case can only happen when viewing a diff with no changes
(`data.result === 'nochanges'`) or saving an edit and getting
a captcha (`data.result === 'error'`).
The handling here, added in the recent refactor
b0f4b4c94e, causes both of these
cases to behave wrong (displaying the error message, instead of
empty diff / captcha form).

Similar to WikiEditor, allow the editing_session_id value to be
overriden through the editingStatsId query parameter. Also allow
server-side code to override the session ID by setting
wgWMESchemaEditAttemptStepSessionId in mw.config.

If the paction=serializeforcache request fails, we were erroneously
converting it to a successful result with no value, which later causes
an exception, because since 381b58585c
other code expects the result to an an object.
The bug was introduced in 2015 in 07001001be,
but until that recent change it would only cause a 'badcachekey'
error, which was handled correctly later.

With this patch, the toolbar slides into place place nicely after
scrolling again, but it still occasionally flickers during the scroll.
* window.innerHeight is now smaller or something, and we have to
twiddle the scroll position by a larger value.
* document.body.scrollTop no longer works for setting or getting the
scroll position, so use different methods.
* requestAnimationFrame() now generates an insufficient delay to make
scrolling happen, so use setTimeout() instead. We actually have to
add a nonzero delay there, otherwise the toolbar sometimes doesn't
animate like it should or flashes in random places on the screen.
This delay is bad because the user can't start scrolling again
during that time, but I think we can live with that.

Something is causing the 'ETag' headers produced by the "public"
RESTBase (queried directly from the client) to be mangled or lost.
My theory is that some proxy or browser extension is doing that.
When we detect a bad etag when fetching the page contents, discard
the result and try querying the "private" RESTBase via the MediaWiki
API (similar to what we do on private wikis, except there we talk
directly to Parsoid instead of RESTBase). After I463a84de63, that
returns the etag as part of the payload rather than HTTP headers,
and should pass unharmed through whatever is mangling the data.
Also compare and log the two etags.

Previously, the ve-mw/init/ directory contained two kinds of files:
those that were used when initializing VE, and those that may be
loaded even if VE is not going to be initialized at all. The latter
kind must not use the `ve` global variable.
After moving those files to ve-mw/preinit/ we can enforce this with
.eslintrc.json in that directory. This would have prevented T228684.
(Technically they merely must not use `ve.init`, and may use `ve`,
but that's harder to enforce. We should instead move the few non-init
methods out of `ve`: now, track, trackSubscribe, trackSubscribeAll).
Also, group some files under ve-mw/init/: targets/ now (only)
contains ve.init.mw.Target and its subclasses, apiresponsecache/
now contains ve.init.mw.ApiResponseCache and its subclasses.

The ...target.wt property contains the wikitext used to generate
the template name. It can contain trailing newlines (T234817) and
all kinds of funny wikitext syntax. Instead, use ...target.href,
which is the title of the page that is actually transcluded. Compare
the new code to ve.dm.MWTransclusionNode.prototype.getPartsList.
Additionally, fix some confusion about namespaces (treating template
names as titles in the main namespace). The template names in the
configuration page (visualeditor-template-tools-definition.json)
now support overriding namespaces in the same way as in wikitext.

If you had an image thumbnail for a file 'Foo?.png' on the page,
ve.ui.MWMediaContextItem and ve.ui.MWMediaDialog did not escape
the '?' when linking to it, which resulted in incorrect links.
Similarly, if you had an internal link to the page 'Foo?',
ve.ui.MWInternalLinkContextItem did not escape it.
Additionally, the links were always generated as if the wiki was
using short URLs, even when it is not (T233628).
The approach using mw.Title is copied from ve.ui.MWGalleryDialog.

* In normal images, parse relative 'href' attributes instead of
expanding them to absolute, and parse 'resource' to keep it
identical to 'href' if they refer to the same page (including
same percent-encoding and space/underscore). This resolves Parsoid
generating |link= options for copy-pasted images (T193253).
* In gallery images stuff, prefix the 'resource' attribute with './',
same as normal images do. This causes no functional changes, but it
makes updating tests easier, and the consistency is probably good.
* Update test examples to also prefix 'resource' and relative 'href'
attributes with './', like the real Parsoid does.

In order to get the desired padding, the `em` values were pre-multiplied
by the parent font-size, which was assumed to be `0.875em` for normal
surfaces and `(13.3333/16)em` for wikitext surfaces. (That should have
been `(13/16em)`, by the way, but that's a negligible difference.)
Unfortunately, the font-size for wikitext surfaces is actually `13px`.
Unlike `em`, `px` values are not affected by custom browser font-size,
so when one was set, the final padding was all out of whack.
Use `rem` units instead to respect the custom browser font-size,
without getting problems due to the parent element font-size.
We don't need separate rules for .ve-ui-mwWikitextSurface now.

When saving fails for a reason we don't handle explicitly, the error
message will have HTML formatting and will respect any on-wiki
overridden messages, rather than being plain text generic message.
Extensions providing custom SaveErrorHandlers may need to be updated.
The only one in Gerrit that requires a fix is TitleBlacklist:

* Remove handling for errors returned in .visualeditoredit.edit.info
rather than .errors (.error in old format). AFAIK this is only used
by some extensions, it is probably incorrect to do (T229539) and all

ConfirmEdit) have custom SaveErrorHandlers.
* Remove custom error messages for 'readonly' (identical to API
response) and for 'hookaborted' (very unhelpful and there is a
chance that the API response is better, if the extension causing
this error generates any error message).
* Add a silly shim for MobileFrontend integration, because we allow it
to handle error responses, and it expects them in the old format.
This is probably subtly wrong in many ways, but MobileFrontend code
only uses this for logging, so it shouldn't explode. In the future
we will hopefully change it to use errorformat=html (T228897#5366960).

A @method annotation is only necessary when the docblock is not
directly followed by a function declaration (in which case JSDuck
assumes it documents a property), e.g. when defining an abstract

The .oo-ui-popupToolGroup-handle styles only need to apply to the
editTools toolbar, where they override OOUI styles so that our
"stretched" toolbar works; they don't need to apply to the pageTools
toolbar, which contains just the editor switcher, and where they make
it look different from the MF wikitext editor toolbar for no reason.

We were incorrectly always adding action=edit to the URL in that case.
The condition was always passing because `this.section` is `null` when
unset, but `this.currentUri.query.section` is `undefined` when unset.

As detailed in T95850#5078990, Parsoid incorrectly converts HTML to
wikitext when a link `href` refers to an interwiki page and contains
percent-encoded colon characters ':'. VisualEditor doesn't know
anything about interwiki pages (it treats those links as normal local
links, and expects MediaWiki and Parsoid to handle them specially),
so we can't easily special-case them. But since leaving the colon
unencoded is valid for all links anyway, we can just do that.

Since we're inside the Target instance, `ve.init.target` refers to
this object. Some of the code I'm changing even uses `this` instead
of `ve.init.target` on the next or previous line.
Most of the mistakes are a result of mass search-and-replace changes
(478b0bcb, e1a887cc), or moving the code from other classes (d294006d).
But I can't explain the "ve.init.target.getSurface().getDom()" line,
it would be good to figure out why it was this way before we change it.

When previewing/reviewing changes, the "Return to save form" button
now replaces the "Resume editing" button in the top-left corner (and
receives the 'back' flag). Effectively, you tap 'back' once to go back

The EventLogging extension no longer uses these internal modules.
They were phased out as part of last year's "lightweight EventLogging"
project (detailed at T187207). Migration notes at T205744.
VisualEditor has migrated already, mostly. It still depended
on the existence of these module names for some condition guards.
* The subscriber for 'mwTimingHandler' was guarded by 'schema.EditAttemptStep',
but did not emit events of that schema. What 'mwTimingHandler' really
needs is the '*SamplingRate' variable for its call to 'inSample()'.
This previously worked because the variable and the schema are both
provided by the WikimediaEvents extension.
* The subscriber for 'activityHandler' had a separate schema guard. This
might suggest an intent for the code to silently degrade if WikimediaEvents
were to be changed to no longer supply the second schema, or for the code
to work for third-parties without WikimediaEvents if they register only
the schema. However, this subscriber too calls 'inSample()' and needs those
variables.
I've assumed for now that it is okay for these to all be guarded together.
Even if the schemas were to be removed and we were to forget updating this
code, the new EventLogging client degrades gracefully from this (no errors).

Abandon warnings are already handled by the code in MobileFrontend's
EditorOverlayBase. Using window.history.back() causes that code to run.
Having a duplicate way to trigger them only results in inconsistencies

T219457). It turns out that Wikipedia users have invented various
workflows that depended on this bug (mostly involving sandbox pages in

RESTBase is changing the way it is storing HTML/data-parsoid renders. In
order to still support VE (and other editors) with quick access to HTML
and matching data-parsoid (needed later for transforming the modified
HTML to wikitext), VE now needs to let RESTBase know it intends to
perform a transformation call later on. In that case, RESTBase will make
sure to keep the matching data-aprsoid around for long enough.

These do not vary by user or page, and can thus be loaded asynchronously
via the startup module, rather than blocking rendering and fetching
of modules on all pages.
In a future change, it might be better to go a step further and bundle

on all page views, but this should be an improvement nonetheless.

Animation shows breifly on every keystroke, even though
only one server request is made, as the promises always yield
to a browser animation frame.
A pending animation isn't really required for autocomplete
as the results are only optional suggestions.

This code is supposed to check if we have scrolled past the end of the
page, and if we did, scroll back up to a more reasonable position.
However, it seems to incorrectly trigger in other cases, and scroll
the page back to the top, because getBoundingClientRect() occasionally
still returns bogus values (even though we try to avoid that). This
happens inconsistently when focussing the surface or closing a dialog.
We can't correctly display the toolbar while scrolled past the end of
the page. Removing this code causes it to go into an endless animation
loop in that case. But that may be preferable…

Parsoid does not use relative links anywhere anymore (T72743). There
is no reason for us to support this. And previous code allowed
"hrefPrefix" to be empty '' sometimes, which is scary, as it could

We need to set 'padding-top' matching the height of the toolbar
somewhere, so that the toolbar doesn't cover the top of the editing
surface. Apparently moving it from the current place (the top-level
wrapper for the MF overlay) to the document node (the node with the
'contenteditable' attribute) allows Safari to properly scroll the
cursor into view when focussing, rather than scrolling it offscreen.

On iOS Safari, when the keyboard is open, the editor toolbar could
previously be scrolled out of view, due to how the keyboard affects
the viewport (or rather how it doesn't).
Detect when this happens and bring it back in, with a similar slide-in
animation as when the editor loads. Technical restrictions prevent us
from really keeping it in view at all times, and I think this is the
best we can do (and it looks almost intentional).

This enables mobile section editing if the user is logged
in and has an odd user ID. Otherwise it is disabled.

When this code was written in 2013 (1a5bdd5bd2),
the langlinks API did not have a way to return the language names (autonyms).
This has been added in 2014 (4ba3a9aea96ee21c035c69999be23580e23f4e0a).

Passing section=undefined resulted in no <section> tags being
unwrapped, which broke the historical diff. Ensure 'null' is
used instead for whole documents.

Catlinks is hidden via a class when there are no non-hidden categories on the
page. We thus need to toggle that class depending on the categories
added/removed from the page.

Generating the templatesUsed list is relative slow, and is only
used in an obscure part of the editor, so only generate it when
needed.

Introduction of targetLoader (d371014e5d)
resulted in all tools already being loaded before a Target is
constructed, so this is definitely not needed.

The tools are already disabled because we set the surface to read-only
above, so this does nothing.

Previously, we tried to keep the list of category members and the file
thumbnail, history and metadata visible while the editor was open.
I am removing it because:
* It is not very useful, as you can't interact with them (e.g. links
are unclickable).
* It is inconsistent with the wikitext editor (except for non-existent
category pages, and I'm proposing to change that behavior in T139191).
* It causes issues when other code doesn't expect the special setup
for those pages (T194068).
This introduces a minor change to the handling of normal pages: after
the save, instead of replacing all contents of #mw-content-text with
the new page content, we only replace the .mw-parser-output child.
Normally the effect is the same (it's the only child), but this could
theoretically affect interactions with other extensions or gadgets.

On long pages evaluating this information is very slow
(hundreds of milliseconds) and completely redundant.

Using margin instead of padding allows the surface margins to collapse
with the margins of first/last paragraph inside the surface, like they
do in read mode. This fixes the slight jump seen in T210630#4949865.

If a page contains __NOTOC__ magic word, it would break the VisualEditor
with "Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: Right-hand side of 'instanceof' is not
an object at VeUiMWTocWidget.ve.ui.MWTocWidget.initFromMetaList".
The issue seems to be that we removed ve.dm.MWTOCForceMetaItem and
ve.dm.MWTOCDisableMetaItem in commit 57a06a6e75,
but the code in initFromMetaList still refers to them.
